American Bay (Where? How to get there?)

American Bay is renowned for its historical significance: during the Gelidonya shipwreck research, American archaeologists used the area—then called Kelleci Cove—as their base, and it has been known as American Bay ever since.

The Gelidonya wreck, recorded as the first scientific underwater‑archaeology project in Turkey, was excavated off Bodrum some 40 years ago.

American Bay captivates visitors not only with its history but also with its stunning natural beauty, inviting sea and golden‑sand beach.

American Bay

Recognised as one of Antalya’s most beautiful coves, American Bay’s rich marine life has long drawn researchers from across the globe.

The best departure point for reaching American Bay is Adrasan. Boat tours from Adrasan will take you there—and often include other gems such as Ceneviz (Genoese) Bay on the same route.

There is no road access to American Bay; it can only be reached by sea. Because there is no active settlement in the cove, visitors should arrive fully prepared.

Diving is a popular activity here thanks to the bay’s underwater riches. Remember to bring your own gear if you plan to explore the depths.

American Bay also offers a suitable spot for camping—but be sure to determine your needs in advance and come prepared.

Because there are no facilities, you must plan ahead for basics such as food, drink, lighting and phone‑charging.

In short, American Bay is a must‑see destination in Antalya, combining rich history with unspoilt natural beauty.

To enjoy its crystal‑clear waters, clean beach and vibrant marine life, set out from the Adrasan area and discover this unique cove.
