Myths & Mythology“Olympos” means “high mountain” and is also known as the “city of the eternal flame.” The Chimaera is the source of this fire.
History & SignificanceIt was one of the key settlements of the Lycian League and was incorporated into Roman territory in 78 BC.
Role as a Religious CenterFamous for the cult of Hephaistos in Çıralı. Natural gas (methane) creates a continuously burning fire.
Structures & RuinsFeatures a Classical Roman theater, basilica, and baths. The acropolis and Byzantine church are significant remains.
