Olympos is far more than just a holiday destination. It has hosted many civilizations throughout history and fascinates visitors with its natural beauty and historical texture.
This unique region enchants not only with what can be seen, but also with an energy that can be felt. There are some places where no matter how much you talk or write, it is never enough; Olympos is one such place.
This corner of paradise, which we visit every summer, has touched many people as deeply as it has touched us. Even now, while writing these lines, we feel longing for the warm sands, historic ruins, and deep‑blue sea of Olympos.

Olympos Weather and Climate

Olympos has an enchanting atmosphere in every kind of weather. Rather than worrying about the forecast, the best mindset is simply to enjoy every moment Olympos offers.
For example, we once visited in May and were greeted by an unexpected storm on the shore. That day we experienced the unique joy of swimming in the rain.
Lightning illuminating the sky was both thrilling and a little intimidating. If you are curious about what each month is like in Olympos, check out our article titled “What Is the Atmosphere Like in Olympos During Spring?” where we share experiences and photos.
If you need a forecast, below you’ll find the latest 7‑day outlook sourced live from the Turkish State Meteorological Service, so you’ll always have the most up‑to‑date information. Still, whatever the weather, we advise you to savour every second in Olympos.
What Are the Weather and Climate Like in Olympos?

Thanks to its geography and valley layout, Olympos enjoys a more balanced and pleasant climate than many other Mediterranean coasts. The surrounding valley naturally regulates humidity.
A sea breeze each evening carries away the heavy moisture and leaves a drier, fresher atmosphere. Consequently, Olympos feels very different from the intensely humid air in Antalya or Kemer.
Even in peak summer the temperature may be high, yet the moderated humidity prevents oppressive heat. Nights remain cool—comfortably so even in August—making Olympos ideal for a summer holiday.

Bus Travel from Antalya to Olympos
Buses and minibuses departing Antalya Intercity Terminal toward Kumluca and Fethiye are the main public‑transport choice. Choose Olympos Road for Olympos Ancient City and Beach, or Çıralı Road for Çıralı Beach and Yanartaş. The total distance is 85 km—74 km on the main road and 11 km on side roads. By car the journey takes about 1.5 hours; by public transport up to 2 hours.

Recommended Ways to Reach Olympos

How to get to Olympos? If you plan to stay only in Olympos you really don’t need a car. Flying into Antalya often involves exhausting transfers, so the most convenient alternative is the intercity bus.
If you prefer a scenic road trip, do check the route map. Don’t end up in Isparta like we once did! Curious to see the road before you go? Yandex Street View on the photo above lets you preview it.
Bus Companies Serving Olympos

Many intercity operators travel from Antalya province to Olympos. Most have long service histories and value customer satisfaction. Which you choose is entirely up to you.
Catching an evening bus and arriving at dawn can be smart—you won’t lose daylight. You don’t even need to check into a room straight away: just slip on swim shorts and dive into the Aegean’s refreshing waters.
What Is the Sea Like in Olympos?

Here’s one of the key questions of our Olympos Travel Guide: The sea is generally calm, not too warm, and of medium depth. Unlike the shallow waters of Ölüdeniz, for example.
You can swim comfortably from early May until the end of September. We say “comfortably,” yet cold‑water haters might not be thrilled—it isn’t icy cold, but it certainly isn’t bath‑warm either.

If you’re among those who say ‘life in nature is an adventure, not a discomfort,’ the bungalows of Olympos are perfect for you!”
Staying in a simple yet characterful bungalow amid nature will broaden your child’s world and nurture their love of the outdoors. Waking among trees, greeting the day with birdsong, telling stories under the stars—these are memories they’ll cherish forever.
If you and your child are looking for a slightly less conventional holiday in a natural setting, Olympos bungalows await. Remember, this simple lifestyle is, in fact, the greatest luxury of all.

Is Olympos a Safe Place?

“Olympos is a refuge for those who wish to hear the music of silence, an address for seekers of peace. Visitors immediately sense time slowing and thoughts clearing. Conscious travellers choose Olympos because it promises not only sun, sea, and nature but also inner calm.
Although this paradise draws a reassuring profile in terms of safety, it is always wise to stay slightly alert. Safety is a matter of choice, and Olympos is cut out for making that choice.
For couples seeking a romantic escape or a peaceful break, Olympos is a dream garden. Sunset walks hand in hand, sincere conversations in nature’s heart… yes, this is the perfect peace nest for you and your loved ones.
Yet remember: even paradise may hide an unexpected wave. Exceptional incidents can happen anywhere. So as you soak in the sun, keep common sense within arm’s reach. Relaxed caution awaits you in Olympos.”
What to Eat in Olympos?

“Olympos pleases its visitors not only with historic wonders and unique nature but also with affordable accommodation. With the money you save you can enjoy healthy, delicious vegetable dishes. Meat lovers will find fewer options, yet the colourful, fresh veggie plates served among greenery should delight every palate.
Be sure to taste the local melon‑shell ice cream. Watching the sunset on the beach with this treat and a cool drink is one of life’s simple pleasures.
The regional favourite gözleme is a must‑try. The thin dough meets natural ingredients and butter, leaving an unforgettable flavour. Also sample prickly‑pear fruit—it may surprise you.
Among our discoveries, the dishes at Deep Green stand out. Their simple presentations and rich flavours prove the “less is more” principle in the kitchen. With every bite you can taste nature’s freshness and pure goodness.
Olympos awaits anyone eager to explore these and many more natural tastes. Start your flavour journey here and follow the trail of local delights.”

Olympos Seaside & Beach Life

The coast of Olympos stretches as a long strip adorned with a mosaic of natural stones. Because it is part of a National Park, you will not find sun‑beds and umbrellas—the beach appears in pristine form. Removed from modern conveniences, all you need to enjoy sun and sea here are yourself and nature.
Be aware there are no toilet facilities right on the beach. For that you must head to nearby Çıralı. This untouched setting is perfect for those seeking a truly natural experience.
When hunger strikes, street vendors roam the beach selling local treats such as corn, gözleme, and stuffed mussels. For a more extensive menu you can once again stroll toward Çıralı, where restaurants await.
Thirsty? Mobile sellers offer chilled beer, iced tea, and water along the shore. The beach promises not only sun and sea but also a simple yet rich gastronomic adventure.
Where to Stay in Olympos?
Because Olympos is a protected archaeological site, construction is strictly limited. Even so, bungalows and tree houses built in harmony with nature offer affordable stays among the greenery. But don’t let the word “affordable” fool you—during high season you should always book in advance.
One of our recommendations is Deep Green, ideal for couples and small groups seeking a peaceful atmosphere. Another favourite is Sheriff’s place, run by the former village headman; also perfect for families and couples. Both are reliable and comfortable, and Deep Green has become our recent go‑to.
In summer 2019 we discovered Otantik Pansiyon, which we also recommend. With modern, spacious rooms, a family‑friendly vibe, and tasty food, it is worth considering—especially if you have a car, as it is a bit farther from the shore.
Staying in Olympos means a simple, serene experience in lodgings built from natural materials, far from city chaos, immersed in greenery.
We get many questions about accommodation, so we prepared a detailed guide: Where to Stay in Olympos? If you need even more info, see Olympos Bungalow Hotels & Tree Houses.

General Prices in Olympos

Olympos stands out as a budget‑friendly destination. The five or six markets here price goods only slightly higher than city stores, so you can shop without blowing your budget.
Bar and hotel prices are likewise reasonable. You can sip a drink for just a bit more than shop prices and enjoy meals at fair rates—no need to pay a fortune for a delicious gözleme.
Thanks to this value‑for‑money balance you can have a quality holiday without hurting your wallet—and you’ll understand why Olympos is so often praised.
Items You Should Bring With You When Going to Olympos

Every holiday destination has its own quirks, and Olympos is no exception. The items and materials listed below will make your trip much easier.

- Two beach towels – one to lay on the sand, one for drying off

- Some cash

1. Visit Olympos Ancient City
Founded around 300 BC at the dawn of the Hellenistic era, Olympos witnessed the brightest days of the Lycian civilization. Despite wars and natural disasters, this ancient city still stands today.
Every step you take here feels like a journey through time, offering history lovers an unforgettable experience. Walking the coastal path, imagine the thousands of years that lie beneath your feet.
Each corner holds stories waiting to be discovered. Olympos promises not only sun, sea, and nature but also a deep historical adventure.
Set aside at least one full day for the History of Olympos Ancient City—you’ll uncover fascinating details.
2. Join an ATV Tour
An ATV tour is a must‑try activity during your stay. Starting in dry streambeds and winding deep into the forest, the ride lasts about 2–3 hours and combines adrenaline with stunning scenery.
Rental prices start around 1 000 TRY but can often be bargained down to about 808 TRY. Haggling is part of local culture here, so don’t hesitate to negotiate.
The tour shows that Olympos offers far more than an ordinary beach break—perfect for thrill‑seekers looking to collect unforgettable memories.
Find all the details in our article Olympos ATV Tour.
3. Visit Yanartaş (Chimera) at Night
One of the most impressive experiences in Olympos is a night‑time visit to Yanartaş, the eternal flames known in mythology as Chimera. Invisible by day, the flames glow brilliantly after dark.
Bring a good torch and plenty of water—the narrow, dark path can feel daunting but the adventure is worth it. You can take a taxi, and most guesthouses will happily arrange transport.
The transfer costs about 500–600 TRY per person, and there is an additional entrance fee of roughly 200 TRY. As always, bargaining can lower the cost.
See our Yanartaş Guide for full information.
4. Ride the Cable Car up Mount Tahtalı
If you want to soak in Olympos’s breathtaking nature, the cable‑car ride to Mount Tahtalı is unmissable. It isn’t cheap, but the panoramic views of the Mediterranean from 2 365 m are priceless.
The ascent costs about 1 500 TRY per person; add roughly 700 TRY if you take a private transfer. From this height the endless blue sea and dramatic peaks make you forget the expense.
Check current info and book at olymposteleferik.com. It will literally be the high point of your Olympos holiday!
For details see Mount Tahtalı.

Rent a bicycle and ride to Adrasan for a refreshing swim. The trip takes about 40–50 minutes by bike—or you can simply walk for a longer hike.
6. Join a Boat Tour
If you visit Adrasan, definitely take a boat tour—don’t just think about it, do it! We discovered nearby Adrasan far too late ourselves. Our experiences on the Adrasan Boat Tour and the Suluada Tour swept us off our feet.
7. Join a Canoe Tour
A canoe tour is a must. During the break you’ll visit the stunning Genoese Bay, where you might believe the sea water is drinkable. Read every detail in our Olympos Canoe Tour article.
8. Go on a Scuba‑Diving Tour
Another top activity is scuba diving. You can take a paid lesson and enjoy an entirely different underwater world. For details, see Olympos Diving Tour.
