The crystal\u2011clear water and pine\u2011fringed scenery are enchanting, and complimentary tea and cake on board make the break even more pleasant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a 40\u2011minute cruise we reach Akvaryum Bay<\/em> for a one\u2011hour swim while the crew prepares lunch. Famous for its clear water and natural beauty, Akvaryum is among the region\u2019s finest bays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lunch features homemade olive\u2011oil meze, grilled fish or chicken, k\u00f6fte, pasta, bulgur pilaf and assorted salads\u2014all prepared fresh under hygienic conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After lunch we head to the Kekova Sunken City<\/strong>. Located on Kekova Island, this ancient settlement was damaged by earthquakes; its submerged ruins are fascinating. From there we sail to Kalek\u00f6y<\/strong> for a one\u2011hour break. Put on your shoes, explore the village and try the delicious goat\u2011milk ice\u2011cream at The I Am Here Caf\u00e9<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With good time management you can also swim among the Lycian sarcophagi at the foot of Kalek\u00f6y. We then pass \u00dc\u00e7a\u011f\u0131z Village and view the ancient ruins of Theimussa<\/em> from the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next comes Tersane Bay<\/em> for a swim among ancient remains and a refreshing fruit service. A final half\u2011hour swim at \u0130n\u00f6n\u00fc Bay rounds off the day before we cruise back toward Ka\u015f.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are staying in Demre and have your own car, drive to Demre \u00c7aya\u011fz\u0131<\/em> to embark on an unforgettable boat tour. Day\u2011trip boats leave from \u00c7aya\u011fz\u0131 Harbour. Without a car, first head to Demre Bus Station; from there a public bus departs at 10:10 (also stopping at the old market) and reaches \u00c7aya\u011fz\u0131 at 10:20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Demre\u2013Kekova Boat Cooperative operates roughly 65 day\u2011trip vessels of varying sizes (40\u2013120 passengers). Tours usually start at 10:30, reaching Kekova Island after a 25\u2011minute cruise. The first stop is the Sunken City<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although there is no current settlement on Kekova Island, traces of past habitation remain. Because the Sunken City is protected, swimming and diving are prohibited. After a panoramic tour the boat heads to Simena Kalek\u00f6y<\/strong>, mooring at the quay for a one\u2011hour visit to one of the most charming villages in Turkey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next the boat anchors in Esmeralda Bay<\/em> for lunch and a swim. The menu usually offers grilled sea bream or chicken plus pasta, bulgur pilaf with vegetables, peas and salad. In season fruit\u2014typically watermelon\u2014is served afterwards; drinks are normally extra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After lunch a 40\u2011minute swim break is given at Bur\u00e7 Bay<\/em> on the mainland, named after the ancient watchtower on the hill. An excursion to the Pirate Cave<\/strong> on A\u015f\u0131rl\u0131 Island follows for photo\u2011ops, then we cruise to Karemlik Bay<\/em> near \u00c7aya\u011fz\u0131 Harbour. En route you have a good chance of spotting Caretta caretta<\/em> turtles. We stay about 20 minutes here; swimming is possible but please avoid disturbing the turtles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The day\u2011trip returns to \u00c7aya\u011fz\u0131 Harbour around 17:30. Kekova is one of Demre\u2019s greatest assets, complementing other regional highlights such as the ancient city of Myra<\/em>, the Andriake Museum of Lycian Civilisations<\/em> and the St Nicholas Church<\/em> where Saint Nicholas is buried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
